Mission Statement

 The mission of the Imani Fencers Foundation is to promote academic excellence and social responsibility. To provide a Safe and orderly environment, climate of high expectation, leadership, clear and focused mission, opportunity to learn, monitoring student progress, and an authentic partnership between Foundation, Community and parents.

Organization Description

The Imani Foundation is to respond to human need, affirm the value of all people, and promote individual self-development. The Foundation is centered on Traditional African values, seeking to nurture a community of love and caring by investing spiritually and holistically to the people we serve. As the old African proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” The Foundation is creating village one child at a time.

Among the aims of the programs are:

  • Olympic fencing: Youth and adult fencing classes are offered to assist participants in building discipline, self-respect and life skills. Opportunity to participate in local, regional, state, national and international competition
  • Mentoring: provide much needed mentoring for participants in the Foundation
  • Tutoring: We provide tutors for participants in the Imani Fencing Foundation.
  • Community Service: Provide participants opportunities to exercise the art of giving through active participation in community service projects.
  • Chess Club: To stimulate thinking, focus, concentration, strategy, discipline

Future plans

  • Urban Institute: The Foundation will host seminars and workshops for seminary students on the role of churches in transforming communities. Participants in the program will gain an understanding of the Foundations belief in Academic excellence and social responsibility.
  • World Class International fencing center
  • Creative Arts Initiative
  • Foreign Exchange Programs
  • Collaboration with other Community based organizations and Business
  • Anger management classes
  • Summer Camps: The camps offer area youth a variety of recreational and educational opportunities.
  • Expansion of the tutoring and mentoring programs

The Imani Foundation opens its doors to all, but provides particular services to the Oak Park community.
